The GB2 squad was back on the water today in Naples as preparations continued for Preliminary Regatta Two of the Louis Vuitton 38th America's Cup cycle.
For this week's event, GB2 will compete with a combined Women's and Youth crew, bringing together sailors from across the programme as they prepare to take on the international fleet in the final event of the 2026 season.
Following their arrival in Naples, the team wasted no time getting underway, docking out alongside GB1 for their first training session on the Bay of Naples. The session provided an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the racecourse, assess the local conditions and begin building confidence ahead of practice racing later this week.
The iconic Italian venue is already proving to be an exciting challenge for the sailors, with shifting breeze conditions demanding constant adaptation throughout the day.
"It's great to be in Naples," said Sam Webb. "Good sailing, good atmosphere here and yeah, really excited for it!"
For Olympic gold medallist and GB2 sailor Ellie Aldridge, the session also offered the chance for the British teams to share the racecourse once again.
"It was great to get back out with everyone today. Back on the racecourse with GB1 as well, it was nice, doing a couple of laps with them and testing out the conditions. It's sweet to have everyone here!"
The team's first day in Naples highlighted just how important the coming training sessions will be, with sailors getting valuable time together ahead of the regatta's opening stages.
"It was our first day out on the water in Naples," said Hannah Mills. "It's a pretty stunning venue. Amazing sailing. Super shifty today, off the land quite a lot, but it's going to be fun."
After a productive first day on the water, the team's attention now shifts to Thursday's Official Practice Day before the opening fleet races begin on Friday. Racing will continue across the weekend, culminating in Sunday's match race final.
For GB2's combined Women's and Youth crew, Naples represents another opportunity to gain experience, strengthen connections on board and continue building momentum against world-class competition.
